The power of Macros: Fueling the Modern Woman’s Active Lifestyle
Let me first start by telling you a little about me. It may get a bit lengthy but hang in there, I'll get to the point. So here it goes. Just like most women I've gone through several phases of self-discovery. In my twenties I joined the Military and wanted to be the best soldier I could be. Fast forward 14 years I'm still a soldier but I've added a few additional hats to my closet. I am now a soldier, mother and wife. Jungling it all in what I like to call blissful chaos.
As mothers I believe that we sometimes lose ourselves in our many roles. Every day and Every minute revolve around our families, leaving little room for us. Earlier this year I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Although the birth of my second child brings me so much joy, I once again found myself struggling to identify with who I am. I felt as if I was starting all over again. This felt especially true with my fitness goals.
Why fad diets don’t work!
My take on fad diets and why women aren’t seeing results
Your diet may lack key nutrients
Not backed by scientific evidence or research
Your metabolism is being destroyed
Focus is on quick results instead of sustainable goals
Focus is on weight loss and not overall dietary health
I competed in my first bodybuilding competition just a few months before discovering I was pregnant. Competing was a huge goal for me because it was something completely out of my element. It took discipline and self motivation that I did not know I had. The hours I spent in the gym, countless meal preps, bland chicken breast and rice had all gone to waste. I was pregnant and starting over once again!
My pregnancy was a mix of excitement and apprehension. “Will I ever get my body back’? was the question constantly in my mind. However, I now have a completely different mindset. This isn't starting over, it's simply a new chapter. A chapter that I am excited to see.
Over the years I’ve tried just about every fad diet, workout routine and trend there is but what I discovered is that none of those things matter. The key to the perfect body or desired esthetic is simple. Nutrition and lifestyle. Throughout my younger years and early twenties, I had this idea of what I aspired to look like. I even had this concept of the perfect number on the scale, “my comfy weight” but as I've gotten older my focus has shifted to maintaining an overall concept of health not just a number. As a mom and wife, I simply don’t have the time to constantly worry about every bite of food I consume.
During my time in the military and even before then I've always been into working out and what I thought was healthy eating, but it wasn’t until I started training for my first bodybuilding competition, I realized I had been doing it all wrong. Don’t get me wrong, bodybuilding is an extreme sport, but it allowed me to have a better understanding of my body, my hormones and how food contributes to the “whole body concept”.
What is the “Whole Body” Concept?
Nutrition encompasses the whole body
Mind

What is healthy eating!
Nutrition isn't one size fits all. We all have different goals, starting points and desires but one thing that is consistent across the board is food. Food fuels our bodies, gives us energy and is all around the driving force behind what makes us thrive. What exactly is a healthy diet? Well with everything out there these days it's hard to decide what to do. I want to be vegan, should I cut out sugar and carbs? Many women like me just don’t know where to start.
My approach to all this madness is all about the Macros! But before I could even begin to dive into that rabbit hole, I had to change the way I viewed food. No more carbs are bad, I can't eat this I can't eat that approach. I simply focused on what my body needed to be healthy. By tracking my Macros, I was able to manipulate how much weight I wanted to gain, maintain or lose. This was the starting point of when I decided I was hooked. The body is fascinating and capable of so much. Just like our bodies transformed to make our babies it can also transform to so much more.
I am a fitness and nutrition enthusiast. “Mama macros “is about my personal journey with nutrition and what I found works. I love to create simple but flavorful food options and recipes you can add to your meal prep lineup.
